Postdoctoral Scholar Childcare Financial Hardship Fund under the CBA
The Postdoctoral Scholar Childcare Financial Hardship Fund is available to Unit Members for a bona fide financial hardship. Funds are limited and administered on a case-by-case basis.
Eligibility:
- Active Postdoctoral Scholar Unit Members.
- Dependent children must be 10 years old and under.
- Per the CBA, Article XVI (Childcare Support), Section 3b, Postdoctoral Scholar Unit Members may apply to the Postdoc Childcare Fund no more than once per calendar year except in rare emergency situations where additional applications may be considered subject to the Institute's review and approval.
Examples of Qualifying Events:
- Unexpected loss of partner/spouse's income.
- Unexpected medical emergency of primary care giver. No medical documentation/diagnosis will be requested.
- Unexpected funeral expenses.
- Unexpected closure of childcare facility.
- Natural disaster.
Eligible expense:
- Funds are to be used towards childcare facilities or emergency babysitting services from a licensed babysitter or care facility.
Documentation:
- If childcare services were paid in advance, please submit a receipt/invoice from the facility and/or proof of payment.
Process:
- Fill out the application form.
- Allow 1-2 weeks for review.
- Notification of fund distribution will be sent via email and funds will appear on the next available payroll period - applicable taxes may apply.
